Hibiscus Green Tea

This hibiscus green tea recipe is the perfect combination of refreshing fruity flavors and nutrition. This beverage is teeming with healthy ingredients, like green tea. It’s perfect served with ice and a mint sprig.

I have spent more than a few days feeling tired all day long. Don’t you just hate those days? I committed to drinking green tea every day. and It’s truly the antidote to what ails you.

Not to say I haven’t had my bad days. But the good days are better, and the bad days are not as bad as the worst ones. (My ode to Bilbo Baggins).

What You Need

You can find the full printable recipe, including ingredient quantities, below. But first, here are some explanations of ingredients and steps to help you make this recipe perfect every time.

  • Lemon — We’ll use both the zest and the juice of the lemon.
  • Oats — I used rolled oats for this recipe, but you can substitute instant oats.
  • Chia — We’ll add some ground chia seeds to create a thicker texture. You can use whole chia seeds; I just prefer ground because it creates a smoother finished texture.
  • Syrup — I used maple syrup, but you can substitute agave nectar.
  • Milk — We’ll use almond milk for the best overnight oats! Substitute your favorite plant-based milk.
  • Yogurt — I love adding some plant-based yogurt (plain, unsweetened) for an even more tangy flavor.
  • Protein Powder — I add some vanilla protein powder for increased flavor and nutrients. If your protein powder is not sweetened, you may want to add an extra teaspoon or two of sweetener.
  • Cornstarch — We’ll use cornstarch to thicken the lemon curd topping.
  • Turmeric — A pinch of turmeric makes that lemon curd sunny yellow.
  • Filtered water — You can use plain tap water, but I feel like filtered water delivers the best flavors of the drink. If your water has any flavor at all, you’ll want to use filtered water.
  • Green tea — I use either Kirkland Japanese Green Tea or Sprouts Green Tea.
  • Hibiscus Tea — You can make your own Hibiscus Tea or use Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger or any hibiscus herbal tea bag.
  • Mint tea — This is optional, but I enjoy adding a mint flavor. Any herbal mint tea bag will work. I used Bigelow Mint Medley.
  • Sweetener — You don’t have to have a sweetener. But if you want it a little sweet, I like using stevia and/or monk fruit. Or you can add maple syrup or agave nectar and stir it in.
  • Garnishes — Garnish this fruit punch with lemon or orange slices, fresh berries, and sprigs of mint.

How to Make Green Tea Hibiscus Punch

  1. Heat the water in a saucepan over medium heat or in the microwave. Make sure the water is hot but not boiling, then remove from heat.
  2. Add the tea bags and allow them to steep for 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Pour the cooled punch into a pitcher, add sweetener and stir to combine. Place in the fridge to chill.
  4. Serve with ice, lemon slices, berries, and mint sprigs.

Keep this beverage refrigerated. It will keep up to 5 days in the fridge. Keep it covered to prevent any flavors from the fridge from infiltrating the beverage.

  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1 green tea bag I used Kirkland Japanese Green Tea
  • 1 hibiscus herbal tea bag I used Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger
  • 1 mint tea bag I used Bigelow Mint Medley
  • Stevia Sweetener or Stevia Sweetener to taste
  • Lemon slices and frozen fruit such as blueberries


  • Heat the water in a sauce pan over medium heat, until hot but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat and add the tea bags, allow to steep for about 5 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags and allow the mixture to cool before pouring into a pitcher. Add sweetener and stir to combine. Add ice, lemon slices, and frozen fruit.

      Hey Rita! I’m so glad you like the look of it. I’m SO surprised out how much hibiscus tea tastes like that Hawaiian punch stuff. Shawn’s not a big fan of mint so I leave that out for him. You may prefer it without mint too, but I happen to love the mint. In fact, now that my mint is coming up in the yard, I’m ready to add some fresh mint to my daily fruit punch. Yay!
